Social Work
Assalamualaikum and good day peeps!
I'll be talking about how social works and societies in Kolej Ungku Omar are inseparable. I'll be honest that before I went here, I have zero knowledge about social works. In matters of fund raising, usually my previous institutes used to make sub-program or make selling to gain side fund. Yes of course, we would find sponsorship for it, in the same time we'll do side fund to cover some unsupported payments.
How social work works? Based on what I've learn here, it's like this; you went from house to house, knocking their doors early in the morning, then asking them 'is there any works we can do?' and asking them to pay us as willingly as the want to pay us. Sometimes, if we can't find any works, we would ask for donation.
I am so against this thing!
The thing is I don't understand why people in KUO are so obsessed with social work. I'm not the type to disturb people at their houses, especially early in the morning. I've experienced before how annoyingly people disturb my weekends and I don't like it at all. Weekends is like a me time for me.
Plus, I used to find fund through businesses which I probably used to. So, the idea of finding donation is not my priority. The professionalism in raising funds is not being managed properly here. I can digest the idea of pitching your businesses but having students sacrificing their weekend to do labor in the weekend? I'm against this. Student should have their right to not being controlled of their time in the weekend; not being forced to join social work. Making them tired physical and mentally.
Plus, in my view, it's better if students sacrificing their energy in part-time work rather than getting tired for not to have anything in your pockets afterwards. Okay maybe it is for the sake of the event, students should support teamwork. But sorry to say, there are better ways in supporting programs fund without sacrificing most of your weekend for it.
When I have to experience this myself, I hate it. I've tried to suggest making sub-events before to the upper authorities, but I've failed to convinced them. They really insisted to do social works. Fine. Fine whatever man, have your way.
